Douglas Simonson is an American artist dividing his time between Lincoln, Nebraska and Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, who has been painting professionally since 1980. He studied at the University of Nebraska, the University of Hawaii, and the Honolulu Academy of Fine Arts. Simonson kept his home and studio in Honolulu for many years, and despite his out-of-the-way location, collectors of art of the male figure found him. Over the years his following grew, and there are now Simonson collectors in 80 countries worldwide.

Simonson's art has been published in 3 print books (Hawaii, Islanders and Brush&Camera) and over 40 e-books, and has appeared in several hardbound collections including Powerfully Beautiful, 100 Artists of the Male Figure, and Stripped by Bruno Gmünder. In Hawaii his work has been included in the prestigious annual Artists of Hawaii show. He has presented his work in one-man shows in cities all over North America, including Los Angeles, New York, Chicago, San Francisco, and Washington, D.C.

Simonson's portrait, abstract and landscape work is highly regarded, but he is best-known for his work with the male figure. The artist photographs his male models in one or several sessions, then works from those photographs to create his acrylic-on-canvas paintings. Using the male figure as a constant, he ranges far and wide stylistically, and is as comfortable painting gestural near-abstraction as he is hard-edged realism.
